the poetry of letters

Booknuttery is a journal dedicated specifically to literature -- the reading of books, the writing of novels and everything in between. Currently most of booknuttery deals with the novel I'm writing -- a fantasy type adventure story that keeps smacking into block after block.

You can find out more information about me here, or you can visit my main website solardragon.org.

The current novel count is:

Page 21, 11,254 words, Chapter Five.

Important Names Novel-Wise:

Willow Gray -- the nerd-tacular protagonist.
Aunt Jane -- quirky old bird, Willow's aunt.
Biff -- Bulky and insensitive ex-all-around. (ex-football-hero, ex-boyfriend, ex-contributing-member-of-society...)

I'm working on it. Really.
I realize I didn't win at NaNoWriMo, but I decided that it was more important to get the novel finished without rushing it then reaching a 50,000 word mark -- HOWEVER, it would've been nice to have reached it anyway, but coming in at 30,000 (my personal mini-goal) is standable..

Right now I'm at another job where I have the time to pour over what I've written so far and edit or think of ideas or pull out whatever scandalous plotlines I want to follow with next, so thats an incredible plus. I'm printing it off this afternoon so that I can start editing the first half with my trusty red pen.

As it stands right now, I'm on Page 49, and just under 30,000 after some post-NaNo editing.

the novel is going good...
its just the procrastinating and the distractions that are making it hard... I've decided that I'm going to try and get at least three chapters finished today, and I've already got a third of that done... I've been doing lots of computer stuff lately, redesigning and the like and I've been finding that my brain is complete mush more often than not... and mushy brains do not a good novel write...

NaNoWriMo --
So November has come, and its time for NaNoWriMo.

I've got the main part of my story going and thus far its good. I'm trying to stay "on the ball" because I'm infamous for procrastination as well as becoming doomingly disheartened and perfectionistic if the novel isn't, well, perfect.

Some main things about the novel:

The protagonist : Willow Gray, 24 -- the novel is written in first person and there are many similarities (but not =too= many) between her and I. I'd like to think she's got a bit of a sarcastic wit and has two brothers, Eamon (youngest and a scoundrel) and Jamie (eldest and much too serious for his own good.) Their parents were killed when they were quite young and they went to live with their Aunt Jane (now 73) in a small town called Shell-of-the-Sea.

I think there are some really rich characters and a ton of stories I can pull out of the various townsfolk. I'm still in the process of creating some of the characters (custodial work is good for this, because whilst emptying garbage, its perfect oppurtunity to both work through plotlines AND pick soiled kleenexes out of cans.) like certain members of the police and etcetera --

Fifty thousand words kind of looms somewhere in the not too far off distance.
